For every large disaster or crisis, the newspaper' reports are full of “if only we’d had more time...” comments. And these illustrate a very important point. In a crisis – there is little or no time. And what little time there is, allows very little room for you to put any new planning in place.

When huge tragedies happen, governments, aid agencies and Australians step up to help and provide handouts (albeit limited). Both the help and the handouts buy those most affected a tiny chunk of time to get back on track emotionally and financially. For most, the handouts won’t last long enough to rebuild what was lost.
